ASP localization

I am looking into making a webapp (partially) localized on a user basis,
currently numbers and dates are the main issue.

Currently I see 2 possible paths. The first possibility is to writing a
number of custom functions to do date and number parsing according to a set
of parameters. Another could be by setting the Session.LCID property, use
the default VBScript functions, and somehow find a way to have a number of
clientside JavaScript functions use those same locale settings to be able to
validate dates & numbers.

The first option is annoying because of having to rewrite a lot of stuff
that already exists in VBScript. The second is annoying because of possible
odd results you might get when regional settings are changed.

I'm wondering if anyone has any usefull tips, experiences and links to share
concerning these issues.
Any help is appreciated.

thx,
J.
