VBScript compilation Out of Memory suddenly appears

Had an error message appear quite suddenly Friday
evening/Saturday morning without any updating of our ASP
application. Here is the technical setup

W2K Adv IIS5 server, ~ 400 sites, dual 1ghz, 2.5gb Ram
1.2GB memory in use, that is the highest we have observed.
VBScript 5.6, MDAC 2.8

Connects to a pair of back end SQL2000 servers

SQL1 Standard SP3a
Dual 1ghz, 2.5gb
2gb in use, been steady for months

SQL2 Enterpise SP3a
Dual 2.4ghz, 6GB (/PAE, /3GB, AWE enabled, AWE max 5.6GB)
5.8Gb in use currently, had been setting at 5.7gb since
we set AWE max at install

The error message is
- ErrCategory : Microsoft VBScript compilation
- ErrDesc : Out of memory
- ErrLine : 0

Were finally able to suppress the error by restarting
IIS, in use memory went back to about 350mb.

How to troubleshoot this? Saw a KB article 174634 mention
the error, but didn't seem like us.

Any advice or pointers on finding the source of trouble
would be great. TIA.
