ASP 3.0

Hi there,

I am building a web page with asp and my server has upgraded to asp 3.0. Now
my PWS is still on asp 2.0 (I think). But I need some features from asp 3.0.
I use Win98SE and PWS.

- Can I install asp 3.0 (so I can test pages on PWS before putting it on the
server)?
- How?
- Where can I download it?

Thanks ...

There aren't all that many differences between 2.0 and 3.0. Why do you need
the newer version on your machine? Is your machine your test server as
well? If so, I suggest installing Windows 2000 or XP Pro.

ASP 3.0 comes with IIS 5.

No, I don't feel like buying a new computer only because of asp 3.0. And I
recon that means: "No it is not possible to run asp 3.0 on win 98 and pws.".
But I'm not sure.

Sorry, let me see if I can clarify. Since IIS 5, cannot be installed on
Win95,98,ME or NT, I doubt ASP 3.0 is available for Win98. However, I do
know you can, or could, purchase ASP 3.0, but I could not find any reference
to installing it with Win98. It is my understanding, from what I read, that
ASP 3.0 was available before IIS 5 came out and then it was bundled with it.
In one article, someone said they purchased ASP 3.0 and then someone replied
with, ASP 3.0 NOW comes bundled with IIS 5. All the ASP references I read
referenced ASP 2.0, not 3.0. However, Microsoft first told us PWS couldn't
be installed on XP Home and then later told us it could, but it didn't come
with it and it wasn't supported or recommended. I do not have ASP 3.0 and
Win98 to test so my guess would be maybe but it's not supported or
recommended. All articles suggested upgrading to W2K, which is not always a
workable solution.

If you want to be in the IT business, you have to stay up to date, as much
as it sucks sometimes. Running a 6 year old operating system that isn't
meant as a development platform is not the best environment for an ASP
developer. So, either buy Windows 2000 or XP Pro and run it on your
computer, or if your computer's hardware isn't powerful enough for the newer
OS, yes, you'll have to buy another computer. Sorry.
