Updating a saved Excel page from ASP

Ben
I am able to sucessfully open/save an asp page that
contains table data in an Excel format using:

Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel"

The purpose of this functionality is to allow users to
perform 'what if' scenarios on the data. However, after
saving the page as .xls, and opening in Excel, I am not
able to perform simple Excel functions such as summing
rows and columns. I notice that the cell format
is 'General' when I open the saved worksheet. Is there
something I need to specify in constructing the asp table
cells that will solve this?

Thanks

Ben

The best way I've found to work with Excel data is to use an ADO connection
to the spreadsheet itself. Keep an empty template shreadsheet with the
correct field formatting that you can write records to. Using
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel" just will not give you the
level of control you may be after.
