Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel"

Hi ,

I have my asp successfully creating excel file viewable through IE
using the header:

Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel"

If the user does not have excel installed they get a IE pop up that
downloads the asp page in question.

My question is there anyway to interrupt this and tell them that they
don't have EXCEL installed, rather than showing this download pop up.

Thanks,
Jerry

Simple answer - no. you could detect it by running some sort of an ActiveX
object, but then that's complicated. The fact they are being promptd to
download the file should be some indication.
