www service not responding-where to post

I am trying to get a working knowledge of ASP but to do this I need to get
my
www service working. I tried starting it and nothing but this error message:
The authentication service is unknown

I actually have several error messages that I should fix, but for now can
you point
me in the right direction or give me some insight as to why this could
happen?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I have spent the last couple of
days
googling and searching Microsoft for ideas on how to move forward.

Thank You
Kevin Raleigh

You should post this and more details (OS?) to the .inetserver.iis
group.
