"Protocols"? Do you mean "built-in objects"? If so:

I agree. It is a weird question. A friend of mine told me it was a
question he was asked at an interview. I was just curious if anyone
knew what the answer was or what it might possibly mean.

I was given that question to ask in an interview I was conducting, as
one of a set of 'standard' questions that had been forced upon us.

I reckoned that the aim of the question was for the candidate to be
able to distinguish between request/response and also between
session/application/cookie, and when one might use them.

Was this friend of yours going for an interview near Chester by any
chance?? ;-)

LOL. No. The interview was in St. Louis. Thanks for the answer Bobbo
and Bob. I've never heard anyone refer to these "objects" as protocols
until now.

No, nor me. Protocols are things like HTTP (hence the P!) These are
definitely objects.
