Opening Excel file from within ASP and passing variable into cell

I have an excel file on my server, which contains an embedded query. I
want to be able to open the excel file, pass the contents of my
variable into a cell within the worksheet and then refresh the query
based on the variable passed.

I can get the query part to work. The bit I can't get to work is where
I open the excel file and pass the variable into a cell. I have tried
various things and although excel launches without error, I can't see
my file in the excel window.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Lisa

What code are you using to launch Excel? Show that please. Are you using
ADO or the Excel object?
