The asp page needs to be opened from an IIS web-site in order to execute.

I have an application that segregates data into two different databases. Database A has stored procs that perform joins between tables in database A and database B. I am thinking that I have reached the limits of Application Roles, but correct me if I am wrong. My application creates a connection to database A as 'testuser' with read only access, then executes sp_setapprole to gain read write permissions. Even then the only way 'testuser'...

Hi I am trying to use ShellExecute to launch an application to display a certain file. The variation on the theme is that I need to be able to specify the application to launch and not simply pass the file name (which will then result in the application associated with the file extension to launch). I want to prevent the application registered in the system as being associated with the file extension from opeing the file.

Hi there movers & shakers, The example below demonstrates a behaviour that is anoying the tits off of me! It doesn't happen whilst debugging from the IDE only when you run the compiled exe from windows explorer. I'm basically trying to display a splash screen in a seperate thread which has it's own message pump. When the call to Application.ExitThread() closes down the splash screen's thread, form and message pump, the main form (and...

I'm writing an application where then end-user will want to view and print (not edit) TIFF and JPEG images. For now, I simply use the System.Diagnostics.Process.Start method to open the desired image with the application currently associated with that file type. However, sometimes the wrong application is associated with a file type. For example, Microsoft Office Picture Manager will only display the first page of a multi-page TIFF...

I'm working on a Windows Explorer-like application. What is the best way to find out what application is set to open a particular type of file? Is there a function to do this? Do I have to go through the registry and check ClassesRoot? Also, once I have the application, I want to be able to get the icon for that application. How would I get this?

Is there a way to use a gridview in a timecard application, and if so, how? I was looking at using a gridview to display a person's hours worked in a week. To do this, many different data records would have to display on the same row to make up a week (the database has a new row for each day entered). But, from what I can tell, this keeps you from being able to use a gridview, because the gridview relies on one datakey per row (and there...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
