Redirect to MPEG gets garbage in IE6 +WinXP

I have a script that redirects to a file for downloading. Everything works
fine EXCEPT:
if the target of the redirect is type video/mpeg (extension .mpeg or .mpg),
instead of prompting for download or open, IE opens a new browser window and
displays garbage. I've only been able to reproduce the behavior in IE 6
running on Windows XP Professional. Everything works fine in Win2k Pro and
Win2K Server (only systems tested so far).

For an example of the exact behavior, visit this address
http://kimmershow.com/Links--and--Downloads.html and click the "Chick Cops"
download near the "movies audio and more" section of the page (Don't worry,
it's clean)

under windows xp and IE6, you'll probably get garbage. However, if you open
a fresh browser and go directly to the address of the link you are clicking
(http://kimmershow.com/SupportFiles/S...sp?FileID=2367) the
file opens as it should.
The behavior only occurs when clicking the link that navigates to the
script, and then redirects to the file. I've also only observed the behavior
with mpeg files. All others play normally.

I'm using a simple response.redire ct in the script.

I'm guessing that this is a bug in IE6 and WinXP, not IIS, but I'm not sure.
I'm open to suggestions, including a more appropriate group for this question.

I can provide more detail if needed...

TIA

Hi there, I have a web application that recently got redesigned and now makes use of Response.Redirect . The "new" application is hosted on Win2000 and works for all kinds of clients using IE 5.0 + and different operating systems (Win2000, WinXP, WinME, Win98). Functions that use the Response.Redirect no longer work for clients using NT 4.0 SP6a IE 5.5 or IE 6.0.

I wanted to show an MPEG-4 video file on a web page. I'm talking about a real iso-compliant file (with the .mp4 extension.) I've been searching on how to use mime-types but it turns out that you need to place a realvideo or quicktime file that links to the mpeg-4 file. But that's not what I want. MPEG-4 is supposed to be the standard format for video on internet (and also for other kinds of multimedia). So I want my MPEG-4 file showing...

Looking to find info/ libs on creating (small) video files. Basically what I'm looking for is a tutorial for constructing a short video... (nothing nasty: output from a transmission line simulation). I've been searching for a while now, and all I get is info for creation inside someone else's app. Rather useless for me. The sim needs to be web accessible. So I was thinking mpeg, quicktime, wmv, avi, etc.

I just found this amazing video puzzle game written with the pygame library, which promises to be infinite fun - but I can't get it to decode any video file I own, except the game's own example .mpg. All I have is lots and lots of useless .avi, .mp2, .wmv, and so on... Now, the pygame.Movie documentation says the Movie class can decode `MPEG movie files'. I know little about multimedia, but I thought divx/xvid video was a variant of...

I am retrofitting a central login application and want to be able to read the Request.ServerVariables so that when they have logged on, I can send them back to wherever they were trying to go.. If you try to load a legacy ASP app, I do this: If Len(SessionID) <> 40 Then Response.Redirect "/WAS/Default.aspx?AppCode=2400" End If

On my WinXP machine, with both IE6 and Firefox 1.0, response.redirect and server.transfer take about a minute. But on my WinNT machine with IE5.5, it works instantly. What's going on?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
