PHP scripts run on C: but not on D:.

In Apache 2.2.6 I can serve php scripts perfectly from drive C: using
http://localhost/file.php because I've added the localhost route as the
first virtual host setup in httpd-vhosts.conf & any php script set up
on drive C: causes no problem but the next few virtual host setups in
httpd-vhosts.conf are on drive D: & no matter what I try I can't get
them to run, I get various errors in the Apache error log file & IE7,
depending on the settings I've used, reports from 404, 500 etc, the
main complaint from Apache is - failed to open file, then the reported
path to the file is correct, then something about a failure on line 0.
I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to get php scripts to run from drive
D: for a couple of days now, the main things I've changed are:
AllowOverride to All for the particular directory, include_path =
".;C/PHP" & so many other settings that I can't remember them all but
it seems that php scripts just refuse to work using a virtual host on
drive D: although there's no problem running them from drive C:.
Any help solving this greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure, This may not be a PHP issue. you may better to ask this on Apache forum.
