Pattern matching: Audio and Images ?

Hi All,

I want to try my hands in AI (artificial intelligence) based application developement. So i just wanted to ask how would we recognise the pattern among the audio and/or graphics files.

Hint: application must be capable of sorting all the images of a particular person.
Or the audio player must be capable of suggesting some songs to user based on what kind of music user usually (prefer to) listen.

For this we must be able to identify the symmetry in nature. Can anyone please suggest me how can we identify these patterns.

Please help. Thanks in advance :-)

Sorry there has been no reply yet but this is a very advanced topic and one that even highly experienced programmers (me for instance) would have no knowledge of.

If this needed to be done commercially in a company then I would expect the job to be handed off to someone with a handful of PhDs and an eccentric outlook on life.

Before you can recognise patterns with-in a file you will have to have a way to quantify those patterns. For example take pictures of people, before an application can sort out all the pictures of the same person from a set of pictures it would have to be able to recognise a face in a picture. That in itself is no mean feat given the variation of lighting conditions, backgrounds, skin colours, face shapes, facial expressions etc.

So for what you want to do I would suggest that there is no quick fix that we can just say do it like this. You will need to start by doing some reading... a lot of reading. There are several Wikipedia articles on facial recognition that would provide some background and there a some open source projects (OpenCV for example) that may provide ideas or inspiration.
