In Access - History for each User

2
I am a newbie to Access (most programming for that matter). I need help in creating an Access database that keeps the history of each user in a database. For example, a user might have lesson 1 sent to them so they can answer the questions. Once finished answering the questions, the user would return lesson 1 and we send them lesson 2. As the user progresses through the course I need to capture each lesson they were sent and each lesson that they returned.

So for each user, I need to have all the records displayed of each user's progress in one form. I have tried split form but it only shows the data from each record and overwrites existing data. I need to have the history for each user.

I know this description is convoluted, but I hope there is somebody who can help me out there.

Hi F22F35.

Welcome to Bytes.com :-)

Please understand we are not looking to take you through a whole project based on a single/simple question. Nevertheless, as far as we can help, then we're happy to.

What I will suggest at this point is that you consider first your table structure. Actually, it's probably the first step for any project once you know you understand the requirements clearly.

I can't tell you what you may need at this point other than you'll need multiple tables that link together to store information about users (tblUser), lessons (tblLesson) and user-interactions with those lessons (tblUserLesson).

A very good place to start with understanding what these tables should look like (The table designs.) and how they should be linked together can be found at Database Normalisation and Table Structures.

Good luck with your project :-)
