Receiving table and Working Form

Hello

I'm quite new in MS ACCESS, but I need to have a database in ACCESS to store and update some data that is spread all over my office and computer.

The reason that i'm posting this entry is this: I work with one GIS program that store multiple data and I have almost 3000 folders related to those data.

My GIS program can export data to ACCESS but it exports all data in a single Table and i want to work this data and order so I can add the scan documents related to each record, but without changing this "Receiving Table" so i can always update de data by exporting it from my GIS program.

Can you help me by telling me in a general picture what do i need to do? Do I have to create a new table/tables, can i make a form just with the fields of this table?

Neuaquarius,

Welcome to Bytes!

This sounds similar to what PhilOfWalton is doing with some Excel Spreadsheets.

I think one of your main challenges will be how to have "new" data related to your GIS export that doesn't get destroyed with every new export.

It is theoretically possible to take that one master table, and create numerous other tables based off that one table which woul dmake your structure more efficient.

However, depending on "what" you want to add to this new data, it could be quite involved or very simple. For example, if each record exported from GIS has a Unique Identifier (like a record number) that never changes--that is, each time the data is downloaded, the same record number is associated with the same set of data), it should be relatively simple to simple create a table that uses that record identifier to store information associated with that particular record.

My guess is that your issue may be a bit more involved than that.

More information would be helpful for us.

Hope this hepps!

I have no idea what GIS looks like, but I may????????? be able to help in a few days?????.

2 Question:-
1) Can the GIS data be exported as an Excel or CSV file?
2) Have you got any form of normalised database set up?

Thank You both for the quick response.

twinnyfo: I've started to read the post of PhilOfWalton about the Excel Spreadsheets and i think that are there many things that can help me.

PhilOfWalton: 1) This GIS database can export in many formats, including Excel and CSV, but to do what i want only de access format allows me to do. I can explain: with the acces format export, the Gis Database will be linked with the ACCESS data. So i can update de data in access and then cliking in the construction in aerialview i will see all my updated data.
2) as i said i'm new at this and i will work on that so i can show you.
