Carry forward field value from previous records to corresponding filed in current rec

I have a table that contained 2 fields namely CartonCode, Filefolder Code. How can I make the first field auto populated with the value from previous records. Because I want to be able to scan the carton code once and continuously scan the filefolder code without having to scan the carton again until it come to new carton code.
