Reconstruct a database from an .mde file?

15
I was asked to see if I could help out a small organization with a very old database they have been using. Not sure which version was used to create it, but it seems to be saved in a 2002 format.

The database is split so I have complete access to the tables, but since the creator turned the project into a .mde file I cannot access the Forms, Reports, etc. in the front end.

No one knows who the designer was since it happened so long ago. No one knows if there's an uncompiled version anywhere. Basically, "no one knows" is the only answer I get to any question I ask.

The database isn't working as they want anymore and the request is to see if it can be "fixed."

Given that I won't have design view access to the front end do you have any suggestions as to the possibility of working with this database, or doing something else that would allow me to even begin to see if it is possible to fix the database without starting from scratch?

Given all of the tables and forms it could take a very long time to see if I could figure it out to the extent necessary to re-create it, with the requested fixes.

I'm stuck trying to figure out a strategy to begin my task and I am hoping someone has some experience with something like this and can help set me in a reasonable direction.

Yes, I know the original file should have been kept, but that's a long time ago, well before I ever heard of this place and there's nothing I can do about it now. It is a very small local community non-profit organization and I'd like to try to help them.

Thanks for any thoughts you can offer.

If you Google "Convert MDE to MDB" you will find a few companies who claim they can do this at a price. Obviously any comments in the VBA code will be lost.

I have fortunately never had to use their service, so can not advise further.
