I am guessing that what you have is the "front-end" for the database. What this means is that what you have has the pretty forms, queries, and pixie-dust :). The "back-end" has all of the data and some of the queries etc... in a not so user friendly format.
>> You need the network path to this back-end file <<
Once you have this information:
- Open the database (if you receive error messages please write them down, (EXACT title, EXACT number (if any) and EXACT text), we may need this information later).
- Ribbon>External Data>Import & Link>[Linked Table Manager]
In the dialog box that opens there will be a listing of all of the linked tables and the path that the links point to.
>> Make a note, are all of these paths the same?
[Select All]
bottom right corner select [Always Prompt For New Location]
[OK]
You will now be prompted to for the path to the backend file, for every selected table!
If there are only a few tables this is great; however, there are a lot of tables, then what a pain!
>> If there are no tables listed then there is another issue and we'll need the information in those error messages to be able to help.
>> IF there are a lot of linked tables shown you may want to use my form for relinking back-ends.
Save the attachment "JustTheLinker.Zip"
Extract the database JustTheLinker.accdb - Make note of this location
Make a backup copy of your database
- Open your database
- Ribbon>External Data>Import & Link>[Access]
- In the dialog that opens, browse to where you extracted JustTheLinker.accdb
- Select the "Import tables, queries...." option
- [OK]
- In the dialog box that opens select the [Forms] tab
- Select "frm_relinker"
- [OK]
This form will now be in your database, open the form and either type in the path to the back-end or click on the button and use the file-dialog. Once the location is entered click on the [Start the Relink].
Progress is shown on the form.
Errors are also shown on the form and logged in the immediate window in the VBA editor: <alt><F11> then <ctrl><g>
Let us know if that helps.
