On.Click button updatte field in open form

I am trying to set a button in the current that opens a form and update a field value in the opened form.

For my case I have a button called "New Invoice", this will open up a form "New Invoice". When the form opens up, I want the field "Status" to have the field value "New". I have tried several methods to update this field but to no avail.

Try having "New" as the default value, either in the "Status" field in the underlying table or the "Status" field in the form.

Thanks Phil, I used the SetValue instead as I needed it to be submitted when I click the submit button.
