2015 was a year with 53 weeks

Hi!

I've got a small problem with my Access database.

We use this database every day to print out a new list that contains:
• Information about materials that are almost running out in our stock
• Information for one week
• Information per responsible person
• Information per supplier

Problem:

Normally one year exists out of 52 weeks.
2015 was a year that existed out of 53 weeks...

Thanks to this extra week the database doesn't select the correct weeks anymore.

How can i fix this problem?

Well, it depends on how you count the weeks. It may have had 53 Mondays, but it still only had 365 days, not 371 (53 times 7). So it sounds like you have a formula that isn't using the most accurate calculation. To help you, we would need to see your current calculation and to know what you are trying to do.

What problem? You haven't described a problem but only stated some years are different from others. Not too surprising if you think about it.

That highlights an important point - The importance of considering the problem as a whole before designing a solution. This is a basic tenet of software development, but is even more important for database design. I'm left confused that you might not realise a year is not an exact multiple of seven.

Without a description of the problem it's hard to offer much. I suspect that allowing for 53 weeks in your design would fix your problem, but not if you've designed it to have exactly a set number each year.

HOWEVER, I do remember working on something dealing with this type of 52 vs 53 issue, perhaps if you will take a look at this thread and then re-think your question we can salvage this thread :)
