Bar Code and Scanner

110 100+
Hello All,

Revamping an old database from scratch - how exhilarating!

I have a system that prints work order forms. Once the work order has been complete, someone scans the work order to a local hard drive. Then we link to the file by using the file name. (I wrote some VBA to search folders for the file name which is also the work order number).

In any event, this requires someone to rename every file that we scan so that the database can find it. I was wondering if anyone has seen/heard/used a bar code program that could print out on the work orders and could rename the file when scanned.

As always, thanks in advance for any insight.

That would be something to ask the Barcode vendor about me thinks.

HOWEVER ( ! )

If the BCR acts as a keyboard wedge, then, one could have the following:
Form
select current file
scan BC
Terminate as Keyboard [Enter]
VBA code to validate things and perhaps renames file on afterupdate trigger, and/or maybe place a message box in the before update with Yes/[NO] to confirm with [no] default.
Office Visual Basic Language Reference>Functions
will have referene to NAME(), DIR() etc... that can handle things such as renameing the file and ensureing that you have the file available etc..

Thanks, ZMBD.

I didn't think there was an easy way to get around this but thanks for your advice - I'll try reaching out to a scanner OEM.

Best regards.

Not always easy; however, usually doable.
Let us know what we can do to help. (^_^)
