Cannot open any more tables.

In Access 2003, I get this message just by hovering on the linked tables in the table window and letting the mouse in place long enough for the link location tip to pop up then move the mouse pointer to the next table.

I am wondering if that is just me. Number of tables hovered is rather inconsistent. Anywhere between 20-60 tables. I tried on 2 different databases and they both do it. I can get subject message to appear by hovering back and forth on the tables of a database that has about 30 tables.

Just curious if anyone can duplicate this. Or provide some explanation.

Do you mean to say you hovered over 60 different tables before seeing this message,"Cannot open any more tables?" Wow,work must be slow there, lol.

I've used many 2003 Access DBs with linked tables and never saw anything like this. But I've never had that much hover time available.

I haven't seen this since once I rebuilt all of the files from '97 into 2003. Appeared to be some issue with converting the old files to the newer format. ACC: Error Message: Can't Open Any More Tables As this article notes, the newer Jet/ACE engines should have this fixed.

Long ago, I would occationally ran into this with other people's applications when they haven't explictly closed their record sets in VBA (i.e: set someobject = nothing) and then several reports and other forms get opened etc... is this the case here?

@jimatqsi
Just hovering the tables. But nothing slow. In fact one of my database has been in use since 2007, 160 users no problem.
I am just puzzled as to why it does this. It's like if by hovering the table it would open. I read somewhere the max number of open tables is 2048 less internally open tables...

Yeah I guess I got bored and suddenly started to hover lol.

@zmbd
After I realized this, I started the database with shift-Enter to go straght into tables window. I can replicate the problem every time.

I had seen that link earlier too. BTW the error I get does not list an error message number, just one line of text.

Yet both database are very responsive. I think I am going to create a blank db and link it to see what it does.

Second Edit:
I created a blank database and linked the tables. Same results. Even got the "Please tell Microsoft about this problem" dialog...
