Removing "Security Notice" when opening a DB

3
Hi

I'm trying to run a DB that was created in Access 2010. When I'm trying to open it with "Runtime 2007" I always get the following error message :

/******************************
Security Notice

A potential security concern has been identified

Warning : It is not possible to determine that this content came from a trustworthy source...

File path : C:\...DB.accdb

This file might contain unsafe content that could harm your computer.

Open Cancel
/******************************

I have Windows 8 installed on my laptop and have d/l Runtime 2007 to view the DB.

I've tried to create a Digital Signature for the DB, but it still gives me the same error message.

I've tried creating a .reg file to defeat the trusted location warning but still it didn't work.

I've tried installing my DB in different places, but it didn't change a thing...

At this point I'm desperate. I can't view any DB on my laptop because I always get the "Security Notice" msg. When I click open, it just won't open...

Is there anything I can do ?

Thanks for the help.

Nick

I even tried to play directly in regedit.exe by doing the following

/*******
In Registry Editor, locate the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\C ommon

1. Click the registry subkey, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click Key.
2. Type Security, and then press ENTER to name the key.
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type DisableHyperlinkWarning, and then press ENTER to name the entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click DisableHyperlinkWarning, and then click Modify.
6. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, click Decimal, and then type 1 under Value data.

Note A value of 0 enables the hyperlink warning message. A value of 1 disables the hyperlink warning message.
7. Click OK.
8. Exit Registry Editor.
/*******

It still didn't help

I can't be of too much help here I'm afraid. I would suggest creating a free signature using instructions at Code Signing, but I have to admit that since 2003 MS seem to be making it progressively harder to use this concept. In Access 2010 I recently discovered that allowing the Signature Import wizard to choose the Certificate Store automatically doesn't always work. The only option I found to work was to select "Trusted Root Certification Authorities".

I would also advise getting a hold of a trial copy of Access/Excel 2007 to install on the computer and triggering the Trust Centre so you can play with the settings. Hopefully, you'll notice which settings are created or changed from the Registry, so you can apply those settings to any other PC you need to get the software running on. I hope that makes sense. I don't have any copy of 2007 (and don't intend ever to get one to be frank).

Is there a reason that you aren't using Access Runtime 2010 to open the Access 2010 file? Runtime 2010 is free to download from Microsoft.

You might also try the following registry change.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\A ccess\Security\Trusted Locations\LocationX
(where X is any number that isn't used)
Then add to that a string value whose value name is "Path" and whose value data is the file path of your database.
I use this on all of my databases to take away the security warning.
