Why do some of the fields in my report have black background

I am working with Access 2010 and have a report in which some of the fields have a black background but there does not appear to be any pattern. It is not alternate lines, just the majority of some of the fields have black backgrounds. If I change the background colour for the whole report then these black fields which formerly had white writing now have writiing the same colour as the one I chose for the background. All very strange.

It sounds like you might have some or all of your controls set to have the background style as Transparent. You probably want them to be Solid.

Thanks for the advice. I have just changed all backgrounds to Green but many of them are still staying Black.

Did you check the back style? After checking, it is Normal or Transparent. If it is transparent, then it will take on the color that is behind it.

Yes I have check that as well. I have noticed though, that I cannot apply 'Conditional Formatting' to these cells.

I have now looked at the data and see that it has been selected from a list of choices and not from a combo box or list. Thus it would appear that the selected item is displayed in reverse colours and there is nothing I can do about it. This is the problem of trying to adapt another persons program. Thanks for you help though.

Access 2010 has a nice feature called themes.
Normally I don't like these things; however, it helps with keeping a consistent colour scheme set... and it will also reset those nasty choices made by others :)

>>>CAUTION<<<
The following will change EVERY form and EVERY report.
Including Fonts.
BACK-UP! BACK-UP! BACK-UP! BACK-UP! BACK-UP! BACK-UP!
>>>CAUTION<<<

Now supposedly you can do this without a form open... I've not had much luck with that; however, open any form you have.... say, your problem child.
Switch to the LAYOUT view.
You should be able to see the form design ribbon option.
Go to the themes group and right click themes... pick one you like.
Because a picture is worth a thousand words... and words often need pictures here's a link...
Changing the Theme for Forms and Reports - Access 2010
Choosing one of these may very well set the selected field to a colour you like. I actually don't mind the Office Default as it is mostly blues... which is a colour I prefer.

>>>NOTE>>> I started with the default and then made my own theme as our company has a preferred font for reports etc... so I custom made the theme with that font and changed a few other settings. Saved this theme for later use... and then select the theme for my applications.

--- I may update this later with a text only link; however, now I have to go move 18 inches of snow that fell last night. :(

Opps,
I should mention... if the objects were created in Access2007 or earlier, or the file is in the older MDB, and related, formats the themes may not apply to those objects.

The Themes are only valid for objects created in a new, or exsisting, Access2010 file.

I have not found/developed a workaround for older objects imported or converted to the Access 2010; however, I haven't had a need to do so.
