Users Have Different Versions of MS Access for a multi-user database application

I have a multi-user database application in Access 2003. Where I work, some users have Access 2003 and some have Access 2007. When users with 2007 open the 2003 database and someone with Access 2003 is in it, the 2007 user receives an error message. Currently the database is not split. It is one .mdb file on our network.

My question is, is it possible (and recommended) to have a back-end Access 2003 database where multiple users are simultaneously accessing it with both Access 2003 and 2007 front-ends?

Upgrading all users to 2007 or beyond is not an option because of lack of money.

Thanks.

If you split the database and leave the backend a .mdb then you can have users with both access 2003 and 2007 using it simultaneously. It is ALWAYS a good idea to split a database.
