Form to search specific tables based on combo box slecetion

P: 2
I have a database with multiple tables,( Tables are payroll data named as Jan'11, Feb'11 etc up to Dec'11). I would like to have a combo box in the form to show these tables, and a text box to search for an employee from the month selected in the combo box. when i enter emploee number and click search the search results should appear on the form on the respective feilds ( feilds are, Name, basic, HRA etc).

Thanks for your assistance,

We can only point you in the right direction - we cannot provide a solution off-the-shelf for you if indeed that is what you were expecting.

What is immediately apparent is that your data is not normalised. There is no need at all to have separate tables for each month; the pay month is just an attribute of an entity, it is not a separate entity in its own right. Unless and until you normalise your data you will not find it at all easy to do generalised filtering and searching, as you will have to look up an arbitrary and variable set of monthly tables instead of searching just one table to do so.

I would recommend the following Insight article on database normalisation: Database normalisation and table structures

You could also have a look at what it takes to filter forms based on particular criteria if you check out the following Insight article as well: Example filtering on a form

Hi Stewart, Thanks for your reply. I got some basic idea on the normalization.
Can you also advise me on below tables how i can make it better to follow the normalization. Basically all tables contain same feilds, with salary, hra, basic, gross, information, and amount may vary every month, there might be addition or deletion in names. I have a form where i need to seach a particuar employee data of a particular month, and in fews additional feild i need to add some comments, and i wantthe form feilds to save in a sepate existing table( called transactions). Pls advise how best i can do this in access.
