ODBC getting data type wrong when trying to link to mysql db

Please help! i am linking to a to a mysql database from access and the table is getting linked okay with one exception. The id field is a numeric field but access things its a text field. this is causing major issues as you might imagine. I've tried linking to the field, i've verified that the mysql table is set up properly.

appreciate any help out there!
