Precision of values

759 512MB
Hi !
MS OFFICE 2007

I use SINGLE PRECISION and, for decimals, AUTO for two fields. I think that is enough because I need 6 decimals.

But... look at this:
100 000 * 0.3 = 30 000.001953125 ??????

Some tips ? Hope no need to use DOUBLE PRECISION.

Thank you

Single precision is almost useless in my opinion - just seven significant figures to play with (which does not mean seven decimal places!).

You may find the ideas in the following two threads helpful both to explain why and to outline other options:

I'm not sure why you do not wish to use double-precision values. They have fifteen significant figures of precision, which is much better than single-precision does. No floating point type can represent values exactly, however - if you need this kind of precision you must use decimal type, as explained in the first linked thread.

Thank you, Stewart Ross

At the beginnings I think that SINGLE PRECISION is enough.
And now... if I wish to use DOUBLE I have a lot of tables with a lot of fields to change.

I'll take a look at your link and... I'll decide later.

Thank you again !
