How to Export Text (column) data from Access to Excel

In my Ms Access 2003 Database, there is a Text Column "Inv no" which stores the values as
"11/1234"
"11/2345PF" etc

When I try to export the Report containing this column, this column in Excel displays any arbitary value as "8990" or "6789" etc....

whereas actually the value displayed should be "11/1234"...

What format should be set for this column so that the value can be retrieved properly as that in the Database..

Can anyone Plz help me this...

Thanks

Excel tends to format all its Cells to General (and may convert some, if they seem to be a special format, such as date and numbers...)

If you want to force your Text Column "Inv no" to be exported as TEXT, one thing you could do is, before exporting, insert a single quote at the beginning of the "Inv no" value (for every record)

Excel will then treat it as text.

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. UPDATE tblname
  2. set [Inv no] = '''' & [Inv no]
  3.
They are other ways to do this, for example you could export the values to an existing Excel template where the cells are already formatted to Text or any other format you may want ... check out this link for inspiration :) http://bytes.com/topic/access/answer...cel-formatting
