How can I link two different fields in a subreport to the main report?

I am new to Access 2010 and I am trying to create a report for our daily logs. I have the main report created with two subreports, but there are two problems.

1. I need to be able to enter one date in the main report and for it to automatically pull that date's data in the sub-reports. It works, but only if I have previously searched for that date in the sub-report.

2. There is a second project field in both the main report and in the sub-reports. They are linked in relationships, but I need for the report to sort based on this data as well as the date.

For instance, if I sort by 2/14/2011, I need a report showing all the information for project x on one page and project y on the next.

Please help!

Thanks!
