How to create a pivot table in a report in Access?

I've got a DB with a list of customer ids and their order status. I've built the query to give me a list of overdue orders and now I want a summary report that gives me the count of each status. In excel I just do a Pivot table and have the row label as the 'status' and the values as the 'count of status' but I need to have it in Access. I've tried a cross tab query but that's insisting that I have a column and a row and a value, I only want the row and value. I then need to get it into a report, but that's the next problem! Can anyone help?
