Error linking paradox file with Access 2007

255 100+
Hi guys,

Recently I need to dig up an "ancient" paradox (.db) file connected by an access database. But when I select the paradox file as link table it shows the following error:

Unexpected error from external database driver (12034)

Does anyone know what problem is this? any possible solution to solve this out? Many thanks.

You need only one table out of the db? Can you export it from Paradox to text?

I've been doing some Googling and see that it can happen if one of the column names is also a reserved word, such as ORDER or SORT.

Search the web for "paradox odbc 12034", you'll see there is quite a bit out there.

Thanks for the help, but I'm not sure if the result I saw is the one you saw Jim. As I had read most of them before already with no hope...and many websites are other languages...One of them did has exactly the same question I'm having, but with no solution at all. (E.g. How should I be able to shutdown the paradox file?)

I check on the 'help' button from the access's error message, and seems to pointing another error code

Unexpected error from external database driver <error number>. (Error 3275)

I replaced the search key's error code and search again, this time it points me to an Oracle error list on MS Jet engine, and it explains the problem is a Generic installable ISAM errors, just leaving a link here for future reference.

The .db file I'm importing consist only one table, but as I can't connect to the .db file, how can I export it to text? I opened it in notepad and textpad before, but it gave me a bunch or words sticking together...

So you don't actually have Paradox available, whatever application or administration program that created the table? You cannot get into it to see what the column names are?

Maybe this utility will be helpful. It says it can read any Paradox db without using ODBC. I can make no claim about this link or the software it advertises, only that you might find it useful in your situation.

http://scalabium.com/

Go to that site and use control/F to search the page for a reference to the Paradox file viewer program.

Well yes I can see the data inside Jim, but it can't make as a permanent solution to my condition, I need to make a link table through this paradox file from Access 2007.

My boss wants to have it connecting to the paradox file as before, which was working in Access 97....using the Jet engine 3.5 sp3

I don't know why I can't edit my last post, so I'll make a update information here....

I've obtain some information about the paradox db I'm trying to extract, its a version 5.01 database file since 1998....Can this version be supported by Access 2007? If not any idea where I can install some plug-in to support it?

******UPDATE*******

I suddenly got it working after I overwrite the paradox file with an updated version, so I guess the older paradox file I copied was somehow corrupted. Now I can work on the next problem on handling >50k records....

And again, thank you for your help Jim.
