Can't add new record in Query

I have two tables. One that lists material ordering information (OrderDetail) and the other just has the material id and the description (MaterialId). What I want is to have the user select the material id from a list and then have the desciption for that material id to automatically show up. When I create the query with the two tables, I am not able to add any new records. When I remove the MaterialId table then I am able to add new order details. I am new to access so any help is appreciated.
