Error 3049 and 53 in Access 2007

I have a database that suddenly would not open on any of our computers...it is shared between 10 users and none of them can open it. The first error message says "File not found" then when I try to close that message another pops up that says "The database cannot be opened because the VBA project cannot be read. The database con only be opened if the VBA project is deleted....etc." It then asks me to make a backup prior to deleting the VBA project which I am unable to do. When I click on any of the commands it takes me to a new error that reads "Cannot open database: It may not be a database that your application recognized or the file is corrupt". Then when I try to close THIS error message it loops me back to the original "File not found" and the only way to get out of it is CTRL/ALT/DELETE...end program. Any ideas as to why this would suddenly occur? Thanks!

This application was working fine up to this point?

Actually no, we were running into errors when we tried to save the attachments...it would tell us that it couldn't save....and then suddenly it would save fine. I'm wondering if it is somekind of temporary files or ghost files causing this odd behavior. Also, since the attachment feature is new in the Access 2007 product I'm wondering if it has bugs. Given how the program wants us to "save the changes to the database" when we attempt to save the attached word file it makes me thing they wrote some kind of a macro to enable the system to do that and that's what's causing grief now. Since it doesn't automatically "go" to the word file and sometimes we have to detach and re-attach the files I can't help but wonder...but then I'm not that experienced here. :-)

Well I don't have much experience with the Attachment data type, so perhaps I'd better defer to one of the other experts here on the forum in regard to that aspect of your application.

When I read your initial post, the first thing that occurred to me was file corruption, which would make the second time today that someone posted to this forum about an Access 2007 corruption problem. If you want to rule that out as the cause of your woes, see that thread from earlier today here.

Thanks Pat! I tried to import the objects just in case but I still got file not found...ugh! Thank you so much for your response though. I also clicked on the link at the bottom of the page for a company that does dbase repair but they don't work with 2007 yet. Thanks so much for responding though I really appreciate it!

Can you check two things. See if the ldb file exists. This file will have the same name your your database but with an ldb extension. Make sure all known instances of access are closed. If the ldb file is still there then try deleting it. Let me know what happens.

Go into the task manager using Ctrl Alt Del and order the process list alphabetically. Make sure there are no instances of MSAccess running.

Are you using Access level security on your database?

Hi Mary:

Thanks for the suggestions...couldn't find an ldb file...we have a backup which I am going to remove the new "Attachment" field type from and hopefully that will correct this. I believe the error is with this "new" feature that Microsoft added to Access 2007. Thank you so much for your help!
