How to place a message "No Data" in a report if underlying query returns no results?

Hi, I have a report, which includes several subreports based on specific queries. Sometimes, one of the queries returns no result, which leaves a blank spot on a report. Is there a way to put a message "No Data Available" instead of a blank space? I have read a few posts here, which discussed similar issues suggesting use of IFNULL fucntion, but I could not figure out how to put in use. I would appreciate if someone could provide a code and a step-by-step explanation how to put it into a report/querry. Thank you very much, Serhii.
