Changing the MS Access Icon

P: 36
Hi!
I want to create a command from my Desktop that would automatically open my Database from that button or Icon.

I've tried going to the Properties of the AutoExecute Form (SwitchBoard) to create a shortcut, however, I'm unable to change the icon from the Macro Sign.

I've also tried my desktop by right-clicking and choosing Shortcut and Changing the Icon and assigning the location. However this Option still shows the MS Access box "Open, Close, Cancel".

I also tried creating a txt file and naming it shortcut.lnk BUT when I have to assign my shortcut path in the Target region it fails (and I've copied that path directly from the item's properties)

What I wish to achieve is to actually open the database without all those prompts, just take me to the Switch Board and NOT use the Macro Icon but put one that is more user friendly and easier to understand.

I don't know if this is possible or perhaps I'm asking incorrectly, but I sure hope I've assisted in trying to explain.

Thanks Again!

Could you attach your shortcut, i don't know why this is an issue, I am doing exactly what you need to do.

This is what I have in my shortcuts path
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Toolbox\Switchboard.mde" then I have an AutoExec in the MDE that starts the main form. So I don't know what the issue would be, maybe I misunderstand.

Thanks AJ for your reply.
I am able to create the shortcut from the AutoExec that would automatically start the Database. However, I cannot change the icon to what I want.
That's what I'm trying to say, hope it's now clearer. :-)
Thanks!

no, what icon are you trying to change? The Access Database's icon, or the shortcuts icon?

Either way you should not be having an issue.

To change the icon for an application you created you change it from the application settings.

You didn't indicate what version of Access you are using but in AC2007 you do the following:

1. Click on the big Office button in the top left
2. Select Access Options at the bottom
3. Select Current Database
4. Change the Apllication Title and Application Icon - be sure to include the graphic with your application when you distribute it.

cheers,

Thank you both
Then I must be doing something incorrectly
I'm using Access 2003.
I'd re-read your posts and try at it again.
Thanks a lot! :-)

In Access 2003:
1. Go to Tools --> Startup
2. Use Browse button under Application Icon to select a .ico file.
