Front end DB keeps freezing when more than one user uses the back end DB

Hi,

I'm having a strange problem regarding a splitted Access 2007 DB. The front end runs on 5 client machines, the back en runs on another PC on the network and is located in its shared documents folder, which has read/write permissions for all users. The machines all run Windows Vista Bussiness.

Now when one machine opens its front-end DB everything works fine. But on machines 1 and 3, when you open up the DB when another machine (for example no.2) has already connected to the back-end, the front end of machine 1 (or 3) freezes until the other machine (for example no.2) drops its connection to the back end DB. This problem only persists on machines 1 and 3 and never on 2, 4 and 5.

I've been going over and over this problem for hours now but i can't find anything that might cause this. Can anyone help?

Thanx in advance

If you go to the Advanced tab of Tools / Options on each of the machines, are the settings different?

Make sure the backend db is set to Shared mode. Just because it's in a shared folder doesn't make it a shared db.

This happened to me one time before and I had accidently left the backend as Exclusive. Works like a charm when set to Shared.
