Speed of Access 2007 vs Access 2000

58
I heard a lot of complains at work about the speed of Access 2007 comparing with 2000 version after it is updated. They say that 2007 is much slower. Does anybody know what could it be the reason if that is true?

I've seen many reports of this but have never seen an explanation given. At a guess, all the many bells and whistles and new functionality they've added simply haven't been fine-tuned yet! Companies do beta-testing on new apps, but until they're actually released and used by a large number of everyday users for a while, it's really hard to tell where all the problems are, so they tend to be slow and buggy. And since Microsoft has made about a gazilion changes in v2007, it is, in many ways, an entirely new, major application!

I've seen posts suggesting that the SP1 service pack has helped the problem in most cases, so you might check to see if this has been done yet. Here's a link to site that gives links for the service pack and hotfixes for the service pack.

I suspect this problem is two-fold.

First off, consider that Access 2000 vs Access 2007 probably have different system requirements. If these are older computers that ran A2000 just fine, I would expect a performance hit when upgrading to a modern software release.

Second, I've noticed that upgraded databases run slower than databases that are designed from the start in A2007. ALSO, I just found this hotfix posting today on the Access Team blog, which is intended for A2007 SP1. (Released August 26, 2008). Among the fixes, it supposedly addresses this 'upgrade slowdown'.
Access 2007 SP1 hotfix package
Access Team Blog: A2003 and A2007 hot fixes

I would recommend upgrading all your Access & Runtime installations to SP1, and then if this doesnt help the problem, try testing the hotfix on a single pc first.
