Unbound text box now has blank fields

I have been using a database i designed 15 years ago and suddenly the field
next to the key field no longer shows up, it is blank. If i use the values to
provide parameters for a query, it still works indicating that the value is
still there. Also, in the data database the value is still there. It seems
that something has stopped this value displaying, can anyone throw some light
on this please?

If it's unbound then it will display nothing. Re-bind the text box to its
field.

That's what i can't understand, it was displaying but now no longer does. I
made a mistake though, it's a list box. I use it to select a value and then
that value is used with a subform to display a set of records.
