Trying to insert data into a feild after an fourm has loded.

2
Hello,

I am trying to make a digital time card but with some advanced reporting and options that I will integrate. I have been stuck on something for about 3 months now on and off and I have finally come to ask for some help. I am trying to have a person sign in by creating a record with their name employee id some specialized fields (nothing reliant) and then the time in is auto filled using the date() default value. So far this is OK. When I try and get them to log out I have them select their name and then filter but the "OUT" field in the table being null. So there is only one record. I have found out that when loading a a record if you have a default value it will not work. So here is my problem. I need to place the date field in the OUT field AFTER the record has loaded. This way I can put IN and OUT on one record so I can later use the datediff() function to find the time logged in. I have tried using two separate records and then grouping them put it just gets too "kluncky" and I cant get it to work the way I want.

I think this is a job for VB code but I don't know VB well enough to write anything, I am teaching myself VB and can just read a bit of it now, but I cant write any.

Any help is much appreciated,
Matthew

Update: I have been playing around with the "data entry" field option in the form properties and if I have it on the default value will load and let me create new records, but it will not display (let me edit) any old records.
