Make a field unique using VBA

P: 6
Hi

I need some help on how to make a field in my database unique using VBA only. I am not allowed to make it into an AutoNumber and I have no clue. Would appreciate any help given ASAP, thanks.

The highlighted portion of your original posting above makes it seem highly probable that this is a homework assignment. I can think of no other possible reason that anyone would impose such a restriction on such a task. Reviewing your previous posts only strengthens this impression.

The experts on this site are more than happy to help you with your problems but they cannot do your assignment/program for you. Attempt the assignment/program yourself first and post questions regarding any difficulties you have or about a particular function of the code that you don't know how to achieve.

Please read the Posting Guidelines and particularly the Coursework Posting Guidelines.

Also, in reviewing your previous posts, members, including myself, spent time trying to help you with the problems you were experiencing. Not once did you ever bother to respond to let us know whether our posts helped you or not. This is considered here, as well as on most other forums/newsgroups, to be very poor manners.

I am very sorry if have offended anyone, it was never my intention. I would like to make it clear here that I thank you for the time and effort that you have put in to helping me. I will take your suggestion and I will review the posting guidelines and the coursework posting guidelines. From this you are able to assume that this is for my compensatory work. I will know expand my research for possible ways to make selected fields unique. Again I am very sorry for any offenses that I have made

Hi Samantha,

For giving you a direction to search for a solution, check the MAX() function of a query and/or the DMAX() function.
You can also check what's said about a GUID in the helpfile (although that's a "property" of an autonumber field...), although it might give an idea for creating an alternative way...
