Invisible Tabe Names in Access XP Database

Hi

I have an Access XP database backend (data only) that is linked by VB code
to a frontend application. While the application is still working
correctly, linking and passing over data, when I open the data backend using
the Access application, the table names are missing - not visible. I can
access the data through the links but not by simply opening the database.
If I attempt to repair a copy of the database, the file compacts to almost
nothing and all data is lost. As a test, I created a new module, saved &
reopened and that also was not visible.

While I have transferred the data to a new file for the users, I'd like to
know if anyone has come across this in the past.

Thanks
Peter

It sounds like someone tried to mark the back end files as hidden.

There is a flag you can set like that which has the side effect of marking
the table as deleted, so it's wiped next compact.

They're probably hidden.
Open the back-end. Click on Tools + Options + View.
Place a check in the Show Hidden Objects check box.
Exit Options.
Are the tables visible now.

I would suggest you keep the table hidden (from users) but to un-hide
a table, right-click on the table name, then click Properties.
Remove the check from the Attributes Hidden check box.

Hi Fred

I did try that earlier without success. Allen Browne's reply seems like it
could be the answer.

Thanks for replying

Hi Allen

That sounds like it could be it. It fits with all the other checks & tests
I did.

Thanks for your assistance

Regards

Peter (also from your home town)
