PDT Application

Hi All,
apologies in advance if this is the wrong group for this topic.
I have an Access 2003 application of which I need to make elements
"portable". Within the warehouse where this is needed, we have a wireless
network which will allow a connection to the backend via PDTs. Initially, I
thought I would be able to create a standalone VB application that I could
run from the terminal. This works perfectly when run on a Windows XP
platform but failed to workon the PDT as it was incompatible with the
Windows CE enviroment.

Does anyone have any experience in creating applications to connect to an
Access backend on this platform?

There are several are approaches at work, if the data collection devices
were disconnected and not part of a wireless network, then you can have some
kind of synchronization process when you drop them into a cradle. The visual
studio development tools support various types of scenarios.

You can also purchase one of several or many database programs that work
well with MS access and also work well on windows mobile (I would go down
this road if you're a not using a wireless system, but the devices were to
be standalone)

However, since you mentioned these devices are going to be always connected
to a wireless network, then the simple solution is to have these devices
communicate with the SQL server as the backend. once again the visual studio
tools are very able to allow you to easily create forms much like an MS
access fashion, and the data will reside on SQL server.

the above scenarios will solve your windows mobile issues, and for the
desktop you simply have your MS application who use SQL server for its back
in data also.

It is very common to have an MS application that uses SQL server for the
backend data part.
