Select characters from string?

Hi everyone

Please could somone tell me the correct coding to select the first two characters from a srting within and iif statement,

eg. IIF(('first two characters of [field] = AB),"OK","ERROR")

thanks in advance!

and sorry, I know this is easy but I can't find the answer I need anywhere on the web!

If Left([Field],2) = "AB" then

'do stuff

end if
