Failing to create enduring relationship between tables

In "tools" "relationships," I link identically titled fields in two databases by clicking and dragging one title to the other. The box asks me if I want to create the relationship and specifies both titles. I click yes, and the line appears. When I create a query and look in the data entry mode, there are the titles, but no fields. A check of the relationships in design view reveals the disappearance of the link that was previously created, which obviously keeps the query from working. Does anybody have a suggestion as to what I need to fix?.

Chuck,

As I mentioned in your other thread , you are leaving out information that is vital to our understanding of your situation! After reading the links I gave you, please think a little more about how to clearly state the problem, including what version of Access you are using, what kind of connection you have between the two databases, whether you are using a 'front-end' 'back-end' approach.

Remember that we can't see what you see on your screen!

Scott

thank you, Scott. I wokr with a Micorsoft Access 2002 (10.6501.6830) SP3 program and am self-taught.

One of the databases I have been working with for over two years. This past week I created a second database. To use half a dozen fields from the first database, I created a query using fields from both. the wizard told me to create relationships between them and start over with the query. It gave me a whole raft of tables, with two or three copies of several, for example, there was Table "A" and "A1" and "A2" and so on. After various attempts to connect fields in various tables, I reduced the herd on the screen to just tables A and B by hiding the rest. I connected the name field in those two. When I switch to query view, I just get the field headings, but not the blank fields themselves. Is that helpful to you?

I would suggest you import the tables involved from database #1 into database #2 then run your query to refine the data after importing. You can then discard the rest of the information afterwards.

File>Get External Data>Import starts the import wizard in Access 2003, I suspect it's the same (or sufficiently the same for our purposes) in Access 2002.

Scott

The tables are in the same database, Scott.

Reading over your stated problem again in post #3 and earlier, it's by no means clear that you are talking about tables in one database only!

My suggestion stands as is... Delete the problem tables. Re-import (not link) the tables from database #1 and re-establish the relationships with your filtered data.

Scott
