Data entry validity

2
I am a new user in MS Access and I use MS Access 97.
I need to check a validity of product ID which user enters through a form as a new record into a table A, to make the ID exactly like in a table B. The product ID contains two fileds: "stockcard number" and "stockcard dash". If the user types in a wrong ID an error message should appear, something like "The product ID doesn't exist".
I tried to do it through validation rule, but it didn't work.
Please help.

To Simplify your life as well as you're users life, you a combo box control with the list of the Product_ID numbers and descriptions in it. This way you can keep the integrety of the data, as well as you won't be pulling your hair out as to why it isn't working for an ID number that may be no in the table.

Hope that helps,
