Layout

Hello,
I am a new user in MS Access and have difficulties with tables and forms layout. Please help. I am using MS Access 97.
My project is to create a database for Materials Movement department. The idea is to have a user to be able to enter a request information for moving a material (named Lift), and to analyze and report data. Each Lift has 2 fields ID - Stockcard and Dash.
I have three tables to manipulate with - "Rush_Request", "UserID_Lift" and "UserID_Location". These tables are linked tables from another DB. "UserID_Lift" and "UserID_Location" are tables with 2 fields - Primary Keys. Those are Stockcard and Dash. UserID_Lift shows information about the lift such as weight, dimensions and so on. Table UserID_Location shows current location of the lift.
I created a table Rush_Request with a primary key - consequence number of the request. I also created a form based on these table where user can enter the request for a certain Lift. When a user types in a Lift's ID - Stockcard number and Dash I want to show the user the information about this lift from 2 other tables - UserID-Lift and UserID Location. The Northwind example has something similar but not quiet the same, as they chose a record from a Combo box and not enter a new record.
Sorry, for being so wordy. My question is How to show my Lift information based on entered Lift ID on a form
Any help is greatly appreciated.

If it is simply to fill in a single field based on the Lift_ID then that simple enough. You can use the DLOOKUP() function.

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1.
  2. me.TextControltoFillIn = DLookup("{FieldName of Lift Info}","{TableName}","[Lift_ID] = " & me.Lift_ID.value)
  3.
  4.
PLEASE NOTE: you MUST replace {FieldName of Lift Info} with the Fieldname of the field you're wanting to lookup. The same is true for {TableName} with the name of the table. If the table has Spaces in the name make sure to rap it in brackets. ex.. [Table Name]

Hope that helps,

Joe P.
