I understand Access 2003 did not come with Photo Editor and such needs to be installed. I have done this. I have inserted a photos field in my table and tried to insert the photo by inserting object (the photo is the sample empid1.bmp with office). After I have inserted it I get "package" in the field. Now Access help says this is because Photo Editor was not install, but it is. How am I missing the boat on getting my photos installed.

You do not (to the best of my knowledge) need Photo Editor to DISPLAY pictures in Access.

Are you trying to save pictures in Access, display and EDIT them, then re-save?

I have developed an address book I use, but decided I would like to store a photo of each entry. I was trying to use the first method and it works, but as you say has size problems and it opens my Adobe when I double click the picture in my form to see it. What I am wanting is the picture to be displayed when the form navigates to that record in my table. The third method appears to be the best but is totally foreign to me. I will attempt to learn the BLOB method and attempt this. Thanks for the insight. dave

If you application is on a stand alone PC for a personal Address book then the second method of displaying pictures may be suitable for you.

All that is required is one line of code in the On_Current event to load the picture file specified in the path to the image control on your form. (unless no picture is defined for that record so the path is blank)

I attach a small demo file and some very reduced images to show how that might be done. The demo is slightly more complicated than it needs to be because it is attempting to show how to scroll multiple pictures.

The system must be unzipped and put into a folder called C:\NF otherwise it will not work as the path to the pictures is stored in the database, just to demonstrate the weakness of this method !

I've come to eat humble pie! I use Access 2003 and have not had any problems displaying pictures but another recent thread mentioned PhotoEditor so I looked it up and it seems Microsoft acknowledge there is an issue and suggest reinstalling it. In a further article they explain that without PhotoEditor ther is not an OLE server present.

I have a number of computers and the one running Acc2003 does NOT have photoed.exe anywhere on the disc. If I double-click on any graphic file (bmp or jpg) it opens in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

Another computer running Acc2002 does have photoed.exe (in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\) When I click on bmp's they open in the Fax Viewer but jpg's open in PhotoEd.

I know this is just a matter of 'File Association' and have now made each file type appear in the opposite to what it was. But this led me to thinking "Is this your problem?"

If you double click on a jpg in Windows Explorer, what package does your computer choose to open the file?? Is it Windows Picure Manager?

So, firstly can you open PhotoEditor to check that it will run. Secondly can you change you jpg file association to PhotoEd.

Does that fix you problem?

PS Perhaps Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is an alternative OLE server to PhotoEd.
