procedure
the cause was a space.

this was the original line of code:
Shell "MSAccess.exe " & Application.CurrentProject.Path & "\feu.mde /cmd " &
q & strUpdatePath & q

where q stands for """"

On the particular machine the pathname contained a space, hence
Application.CurrentProject.Path contained a space
therefore the line should be

Shell and then:
SysCmd(acSysCmdAccessDir) & "MSAccess.exe " & q &
Application.CurrentProject.Path & "\feu.mde" & q & " ; " & q &
strBasisDataPad & q

I processed the two tips in that thread: added the pathname to access.exe
and changed /cmd in ;
