transactions and linked tables (advise requested)

I am looking for some advise.

I would like to do the following

dim rst as ADODB.recordset
set rst = currentdb.openrecordset("mytable",dbOpenDynaset)
with rst
BeginTrans
.AddNew
![Field1]="new value"
[.....]
.Update
CommitTrans
end with

"mytable" is a linked table (Access2000 front end, and MS SQL backend,
via ODBC)

The question is:

Will BeginTrans / CommitTrans have any effect on the linked table? If
not, what would be a better way to it? Or, does AddNew and Update
effectively do the same?

Thanks, and sorry if this is too basic - I am relatively new to
transaction methods.
