Too many Access entries in Task Bar

446 Expert 256MB
Having just migrated a system from Acc'97 to Acc 2003 my users are complaining there are too many entries in the Windows Task bar at the bottom of their screen.

Access 2002/3 keeps seperate task for every form open. Usually this is only 2 or 3 but can be 6 or so, depending what they are doing. Previously, all were shown as one activity 'Access' in the Task Bar.

Their problem is that if they tab to other applications (Outlook or Sage etc) then want to return to where they were in the Access app, they now have to select a particular 'form' in the Task Bar, and the names are shortened (or they are careless) so return to the wrong place.

Anyone know whether this behaviour can be 'turned off' in Access?

Thanks

Sorry S7 - Don't know about setting or turning off that functionality. If the user is jumping out to another app then back to the db, then they can use "Alt + Tab" on keyboard. Hitting that combo jumps right back to the previous position you were at between 2 apps.

You could build a custom function to track which form currently being viewed/used using a global variable. No matter which forrm receives the focus when they come back - you can set the focus to the correct form.

Thanks for your suggestion. "Alt + Tab" was my thought too.

I don't really want to go to the trouble of a global, partly because I can't get my head around how I would stop it re-setting to the form clicked in the task bar when it received focus.

I haven't given it too much thought though, because I have been struggling to master how to 'sign' and Access app to stop the 'unsafe code' error messages when starting 2003. Nearly there now, I think!

I might just drop the original query on the Windows Forum. Are there any rules about that?

Just for the record . . .

YOU CAN reduce the number tasks appearing in the Task Bar

Tools > Option > View > uncheck 'Windows in Task Bar'

Access then only appears as one task regardless how many forms are open
